REAL TALK

With Molly Lambert

OK, so I totally understood the Will Oldham and Kanye kinship right away, since they both really hate gold diggers. It seemed less obvious at first but I finally get Oldham’s bond with R. Kelly. It’s because they write songs for their respective races to make babies to. Or maybe it’s the shared fondness for pseudonyms. Or because one of them looks like a child molester and the other actually is one.

Riffing off of John Lurie’s amazing Fishing With John, super creepy dude Caveh Zahedi made a film called Tripping With Caveh where he eats mushrooms with his musical hero Will Oldham and a couple of Caveh’s friends, one of whom is his girlfriend Zyzzyva editor Amanda Field.

There’s a clip online, it looks like a worthy addition to any amateur cineaste’s library. You may know Caveh Zahedi as the star of the semi-documentary I Am A Sex Addict wherein he documents his obsession with prostitutes. Did I mention how creepy he is?

REAL TALK

I assume that like me you consider Fingerstyle the most concupiscent of musical genres.

Here are some fingerpicked tunes from unofficial T.R. mascot Will Oldham, whose head in a cup was our logo before we went with the kitten. It’s the soundtrack to the film Seafarers by British director Jason Massot, a documentary about four seamen in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

“Sapele” – Will Oldham: mp3

“Lars” – Will Oldham: mp3

“Bogo” – Will Oldham: mp3

“Emmanuel” – Will Oldham: mp3

Leonard Cohen (L-Co, as I call him) gave rise to the concupiscence of fingerstyle.
