For every generation, there is an Annette Bening and Michael Douglas. The prospect of a politician dating high profile women while running the free world is the idea most destined to be an NBC miniseries of our time.

Celebrity couples are the way a decadent society expresses itself. I was sailing on a tanker ship somewhere near New Guinea when I first learned of the Seal and Heidi Klum coupling, and every day since has been a struggle.

Bruni is a model turned pop singer. Sarkozy is one crazy mofo with super charisma who is currently toting this hottie to places around the globe.

There are scientists who insist that this happening predates the End Times.

In the scene from their journey to Giza, Sarkozy is in possession of some kind of homing device that binds him to her.

The speculation is that the camera is the method by which Sarkozy controls her.

Bruni’s not hard on the eyes, she’s like the woman who played the female terminator but she sings great.

In 2000, two years after retiring from modelling, she hooked up with a young French philosopher, Raphaël Enthoven.

The quiet life beckoned until Enthoven’s former wife, Justine Lévy (the daughter of the philosopher Bernard Henri-Lévy) wrote a thinly-veiled novel, Rien de Grave (Nothing Serious), in which Carla had been “reimagined” as Paula, a plastic-coated model-turned-rock star who steals the protagonist’s husband.

Bruni released her first pop album “Quelqu’un M’a Dit” (Someone Told Me) in 2004 and it was a surprise hit. This year’s follow-up “No Promises” — consisting of segments of English poetry set to music — was less successful.

Politically she has placed herself on the left, telling a British newspaper earlier this year that she would vote for Sarkozy’s rival Segolene Royal in the May presidential election.

“My parents also always voted for the left. It’s a tradition. I will never vote for the right,” she told The Sunday Herald.

The attention of the paparazzi is now likely to switch to Egypt where Sarkozy is expected to spend a private Christmas holiday with his family ahead of an official visit on December 30 and 31.

During Sarkozy’s childhood, his father refused to give his former wife’s family any financial help, even though he had founded his own advertising agency and had become wealthy. The family lived in a small mansion owned by Sarkozy’s grandfather, Benedict Mallah, in the 17th Arrondissement. The family later moved to Neuilly-sur-Seine, one of the wealthiest communes of the Île-de-France région immediately west of the 17th Arrondissement just outside of Paris.

According to Sarkozy, his staunchly Gaullist grandfather was more of an influence on him than his father, whom he rarely saw. Sarkozy was, accordingly, raised in the Catholic faith of his household. Nicolas Sarkozy, like his brothers, is a baptised and professing Catholic. Sarkozy also said recently that one of his role models was the late pope John Paul II.

Sarkozy’s father Paul did not teach him or his brothers Hungarian. There is no evidence suggesting that there was an attempt to educate the Sarkozy siblings about their paternal ethnic background.

Sarkozy has said that having been abandoned by his father shaped much of who he is today. As a young boy and teenager, he felt inferior in relation to his wealthy classmates. He suffered from insecurities (his physical shortness of 1.65 m, 5 feet 5 inches, or his family’s lack of money, at least relatively to their 17th Arrondissement or Neuilly neighbours), and is said to have harboured a considerable amount of resentment against his absent father. “What made me who I am now is the sum of all the humiliations suffered during childhood”, he said later.

Becoming a political superstar and a celebrity isn’t for everyone, it’s mostly for orphans like Harry Potter.
