Hello, Alex, Molly, Molly, everyone there... I surfed on your site by accident, after googling (is that actually a word?) "Carrie Fisher", & then clicking on a picture of her. I gotta say, seems you have a really cool site going here. I'm reading the "Call For The Priest" story, I haven't finished it yet, But let's just say that I'm a diehard MetalHead, I still have long hair, I think I still have one of my old leather jackets somewhere back home in Pittsburgh, my old records might or might not still be floating around in some milk crates, in the possesson of an ex girlfriend in or near Philly, I've been playing guitars since 1979, (not continuously, that would be a world's record or something!) & still can't manage to get a band out of the barn, off the ground, and to the stage, although I've given the booze & drugs the heave-ho in favor of a clear mind & spirit. Phew. Are you following along so far? I have a tendency to ramble, might have something to do with all the coke & acid I used to consume in mass quantities. Anyways, I grew up with Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin, to name just a few, then graduated to Metal Church, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Celtic Frost, etc. in the '80s...(remember the '80s?) Testament, Sepultura, I could go on and on, but why? Point's been made. Metal not only lives, it THRIVES! So what if I'm over forty with a fat belly, and so are most of my heroes? So what if my daughter listens to Evanescence? In the immortal words of The Anti-Nowhere League; "So FUCKING What?!" What, if anything, is it all worth in the end? Since we're all going to be blown to bits of cosmic flotsam in a nanosecond three years from now anyway, when the dark & mysterious "Nibiru, Planet Of The Crossing" either shifts the poles, or, worse, crashes dead-on into us? Oh, say it ain't so! What is the true nature of humanity, anyway? Are we a microcosm of our Creator? Or are we just randomly occurring strands of DNA, careening willy-nilly (I was going to say "helter-skelter, but I didn't want you to make a Manson connection) thru the universe, accomplishing absolutely nil for all our centuries of hard work? Or are we Nicola Tesla's mysterious plasma, flashing lightning bolts of thought-energy, spirits in the solar winds, ghosts in the giant machine which is everlasting existence? How the hell should I know? I'm just an old MetalHead!!!
Cool site. Have a nice day!

You cover Judas Priest at the hands of stupid rekkid executives and ignore the early days for the most part. You missed the evisceration of Black Sabbath minus Ozzy and Deep Purple minus everyone, and you dismiss the staying power of Slayer and Metallica while conveniently forgetting Hawkwind, Motorhead, and Venom. Shame. (I saw Priest at the Starwood in L.A. touring with Exciter. Smaller than CBGB.)

Awesome.

I was 15 in 1988, so I am an 80s child, and I was way into metal at the time. It's too bad you missed all those shows. Me, I saw my fair share: Van Halen (my absolute favorite band at the time and my main inspiration for becoming a musician), Dokken, Ozzy, Megadeth (opening for Judas Priest, btw), Iron Maiden (I'll never forget Bruce yelling out the name of the wrong city--classic), Metallica, Motely Crue, Queensryche, Bon Jovi (I know, I know...), Aerosmith, Scorpions, Cinderella, Living Colour, Primus (<i>opening</i> for a band called 24-7 Spies), Whitesnake, and probably more I can't even remember. I never got into Slayer, but I do remember digging Overkill (they had a great EP titled "Fuck You." Classic.).

Great article, Brian.
