In Which We Mourn The Passing Of Two Great Voices And The Men They Belonged To

SHINE ON (IN HEAVEN) YOU CRAZY DIAMONDS

by Molly Lambert

Two great men who gave immeasurably to music are with us no more: Porter Wagoner, and Robert Goulet. Both were institutions in their fields, country and cabaret respectively.

Rest in peace you deep-voiced barrel-chested man among men. Had you died but a day earlier, we would have dressed in Halloween tribute as Robert Ghoulet.

“Red Ships Of Spain” ft. Will Ferrell as Robert Goulet, and Chris Parnell and Alec Baldwin as the Goulet Brothers

Hilarious series of Robert Goulet ESPN ads (why does ESPN always have the best commercials?) They made like sixteen of these and all of them are so fucking funny. His ad for Emerald Nuts was also ridiculously entertaining. Goulet’s haint can feel free to come mess with our stuff anytime.

Onion A.V. Club interview with Porter Wagoner

Robert Goulet, the man and his music. Jeopardy just taught us that a snazzy nicknames for baritones (like Goulet) is “Ol’ Leather Tonsils.” We will think about this next time we’re out tossing around the old leather pumpkin.
